Cardiovascular System – Part of Circulatory System

The term Cardiovascular originates from the Greek word cardia, meaning "heart," and the Latin vasculum, meaning "small vessel".

The basic components of the cardiovascular system are the heart, the blood vessels, and the blood. The cardiovascular system and the lymphatic system form what is collectively called the circulatory system. Of the two systems, the cardiovascular system is the primary transport operator i.e. it distributes blood and the lymphatic system aids it in its function.

The circulatory system includes: the pulmonary circulation, a "loop" through the lungs where blood is oxygenated; and the systemic circulation, a "loop" through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood. An average adult contains five to six quarts (roughly 4.7 to 5.7 liters) of blood, which consists of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

The Human Biology site talks about this subject in a more detailed manner.
