In the human body, the circulatory system, also known as cardiovascular system, is a system of organs that move nutrients, gases and wastes to and from cells. The circulatory system also helps to stabilize body temperature and pH to maintain homeostasis. The circulatory system is made up of the vessels and the muscles that help and control the flow of the blood across the body. This process is called circulation. The main parts of the system are
- Heart
- Arteries
- Capillaries
- Veins
All these organs, which are part of the circulatory system, provide a continuous flow of blood to the body, also supplying the tissues with oxygen and nutrients. Arteries carry blood away from the heart; veins return blood to the heart.
