Excretory System

The excretory organs involve various organs like kidneys, lungs, sweat glands, and skin. Excretion is the key to good health as the body gets rid of poisonous wastes. If the waste is not removed can cause serious problem. The kidney is the primary organ as it performs the dual function of filtering out the waste and purifying the blood.

The Excretory System is comprised of: -

  • Kidney
  • Ureters
  • Urinary bladder

The bean shaped filter situated behind the abdominal cavity Absorbs into the blood most of the water, glucose, amino acids, vitamins and Essential salts. Helps maintaining the acid balance and the water balance of the blood.

The Ureters are two muscular tubes each of 10 inches long. They drain the urine from the kidney to the bladders.

The urinary Bladder is an organ, which is the temporary storage of urine. It is a hollow muscular and distensible or elastic.

The bladder excites the sensory nerves in the bladder wall causing the relaxation of sphincter resulting in the release of the urine.

Other Excretory Organs: -
  • Lungs
  • Sweat glands
  • Liver

Lungs: - remove carbon dioxide and water vapor from the body.

Sweat glands: - the body gets rid of urea, uric acid, various salts, and assorted nitrogenous wastes through sweat glands.

Liver: - does the work of filtration and cleans out toxic waste and acid in the blood.
